Rooted Mechanical Heating & Air | Northwest Arkansas
Thermostat Installation in Elkins, AR
Thermostat installation and replacement for homes and light commercial buildings in Elkins and across Northwest Arkansas. The stat has to match the equipment: a furnace, an air conditioner, or a heat pump that needs auxiliary heat configured on purpose. A pretty screen on the wrong setup is how backup heat runs all day. Rooted Mechanical Heating & Air is based in Elkins.

01When to replace it
When the Thermostat Is the Problem
Sometimes it is. Often the system behind it is. We check both before we sell a stat.
- 01
It does not hold the setting you chose
Or the display and the room disagree by a wide margin.
- 02
The system short cycles after a stat swap
A common result of a heat pump configured as a straight air conditioner.
- 03
Backup heat runs in mild weather
Auxiliary heat settings, not a bigger bill you have to live with.
- 04
Blank screen or no call for heat or cooling
Batteries, the door switch, or a blown low-voltage fuse. We look before we replace.
- 05
You changed equipment and kept the old stat
A new heat pump or furnace often needs a stat that knows the new terminals.
02What we install
What Thermostat Installation Includes
The work is the control, wired and configured for the system you have.
Replacement stats
Pulled, wired, and configured. Not left on factory settings that do not match the house.
Heat pump configuration
Changeover and auxiliary heat, so strips or the furnace are backup, not the default.
Heat pump installationFurnace and AC stats
Single stage or two stage, fan control included.
Heating installationIf the stat is not the fault
We stop and diagnose the system.
AC repairLocation
A stat in the sun or over a supply register will never read the house. We will say if it should move.
What we will not pretend
A thermostat does not fix a dead compressor, a bad furnace, or ducts that do not move air.
03Why Rooted
Why the Setup Matters More Than the Brand
Most thermostat trouble we see after a homeowner install is configuration, especially on heat pumps.
- 01Wired and configured for the equipment on site
- 02Heat pump auxiliary heat set on purpose
- 03A diagnosis when the stat is not the cause
- 04Location called out when the reading is the problem
- 05Licensed (#0006641) and insured
04How it works
How a Thermostat Install Goes
Identify the system, then the stat.
- Step 01
Tell us the equipment
Furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, or you are not sure. A photo of the current stat wiring helps.
- Step 02
We confirm the stat is the right fix
If the system itself has failed, we say that before a new control goes on the wall.
- Step 03
We install it and run both modes
Heat and cool, and backup heat if you have it, proved once.

Most thankful for the exceptional service and knowledge Branden provided. He got our air going again and most certainly educated me on the value and importance of regular maintenance- beyond just changing your filter once a month. Big thanks for the experience!
I had a great experience with rooted mechanical. They quickly diagnosed our hvac problems and gave us several options to get everything back up and running. Good people doing good work
Great team at Rooted Mechanical. They are professional, organized, and dependable. Easy to work with and I highly recommend!

Thermostat Installation in Elkins and Nearby
A lot of stats around Elkins got replaced by the homeowner when the old one cracked or went blank. On a straight furnace and air conditioner that often works. On a heat pump it often does not, and the backup heat is what you notice on the bill.
If the system will not heat, start with heating repair or heat pump repair rather than assuming the stat. If the system will not cool, start with AC repair. The full service list is on HVAC services.

07FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Controls, without a brand pitch.
Call or text 479-966-0099, or request service online.
Call or text (479) 966-0099Can I install a thermostat myself?
On a simple furnace and air conditioner, many people do. On a heat pump, the auxiliary-heat and changeover settings are where those installs go wrong. If the bill jumped after a stat swap, call and we will check the configuration.
Will a new thermostat lower my bill by itself?
Only if the old one was running backup heat or holding a setpoint you did not intend. A new stat does not repair a dirty coil, a weak capacitor, or a system that is the wrong size.
Do you install thermostats during a new system install?
Yes. A new furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump includes a control that matches it. This page is also for a stat-only visit when the equipment is staying.
What if the thermostat is blank?
Check the batteries if it has them, and the furnace door switch. If it is still blank, there may be a blown low-voltage fuse, which means something shorted. That is a diagnosis, not a new faceplate by default.
