The short answer
People multiply the age of the air conditioner, in years, by the repair quote. If the result is over $5,000, the rule says replace. If it is under, the rule says repair. That is a sketch you will see online. It is not a Rooted Mechanical policy, and we do not use it as a cutoff.
A young system with a failed compressor is a different conversation from an older system that only needs a capacitor. We put the written estimate next to what a replacement would be, and you choose. The $79 Service Call is applied to the repair if you approve it. Starting figures are on the rates page. The repair itself is AC repair. The changeout, when that is the better job, is AC replacement.
